Subject: 233rd Anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States
The below proclamation will be read and signed by Mayor Tom McCraw at the Goshen Library on Thursday, September 17,2020 at 1:00 p.m. Please come out to witness this historic Town event! We are excited about this proclamation and want to recognize and support the Constitution of the United States of America and we hope that you are too. Show up and be proud to be an American!
WHEREAS: September 17, 2020, marks the two hundred thirty-third anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and
WHEREAS, The events that led to the signing of The Constitution of the United States of America by the delegates of the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787, have significance for every American and are honored in public schools across the nation on September 17 as Constitution Day; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent document and its memorable anniversary; and to the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion; and
WHEREAS, Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Tom McCraw, Mayor of the Town of Goshen, Virginia do hereby proclaim the week of September 17 – 23, 2020 as Constitution Week in the Town of Goshen, County of Rockbridge, Commonwealth of Virginia.
