The Virginia Department of Transportation will have daytime closures on Route 39 (Maury River Road, Goshen Pass) in Rockbridge County starting Monday, July 14, 2014.  This will allow contractors to do slope-reinforcement work in several locations through the area of Goshen Pass.

Recent inspections have prompted VDOT to begin improvements to Route 39 along the Maury River. Contractors will install a series of “soil nails,” concrete-and-steel rods driven horizontally beneath the roadbed.

Route 39 will be closed daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at various work sites in the Goshen Pass area, which is about five miles west of Rockbridge Baths and 15 miles west of Lexington. The road will be open to two-way traffic during non-work hours.

The improvements on Route 39 are expected to take about four weeks.  All work is weather permitting.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained, by dialing 511 and at 511 For other assistance call the VDOT customer service center, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Citizens can dial 1-800-367-7623 from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
